Recently I was working with a chisel and I hit the end of my finger with the edge of the chisel. It did not cut me and my wife thought my reaction was strange. If a chisel edge hit your finger and did not cut it, what would you initial thought be? This is to see if I am right or strange.

Sounds dull as hell. Not being Strange I mean.
I always tell people that when they can shave little curls off a single hair then their sharpeing skills are getting there and when they can hold the edge NEAR their arm hair and the hair pulls its self out and runs away then they have arived at a sharp tool.
: )
Most of the people I enjoy are usually right and often strange all at the same time.
Strange
I would only use that chisel for re-pointing -

Sharp Chisel
My very first thought was that I needed to sharpen the chisel, which I did. My wife thought one that wouldn't cut me was a good idea.
May we assume . . .
. . . that she also recommends rubber blades for your saw? ;-)
And, FWIW, I would have reacted exactly as you did.
Mrs. Guitarguy
I wouldn't worry about it. He will get tired of cutting himself pretty quick. Just give it a little time. It isn't as much fun as they make it look in the movies. Of course we forget after a year or so and have to try it again from time to time just to make sure.
It's all part of the fun of woodworking. The drippier, squirttier part.

The Habit of avoiding the sharp ends
The habit I had to break was picking the saw dust out of the teeth of my japanese saws with my fingers. For the longest time I would find myself looking at my finger tips after a day in the shop and saying to my self " Why do I have so many paper cuts on my fingers ? ".
One day the light finally went on. They are pretty different from metal hacksaws and western saws.
