I’m having trouble setting up a drawer lock bit, am hoping someone can give me some tips. First of all, it’s a CMT 855.502.11 drawer lock bit that is included in one of their kitchen sets.
I’ve run through a number of setups and I just can get the joint to be tight. First question is: can this bit be used on a 1/2″ material?
If so, I’m setting it up initially at about 3/8″ height and setting the fence so the lower cutting face is flush with the fence. Then I take my stock and run 2 pieces through on the end grain and match them up, if I raise the bit I tighten the joint and lower it to loosen it. The problem is that in order to get the joint tight I have to raise the bit too high and when I move the fence back to mill the end grain on the drawer front it punches through the face that should remain. It sounds confusing, I hope you can follow my description.
PS- I sent an email to sommerfeld, but haven’t heard back from them yet.
