   Yes, there is......where I seen the book.....can not for the life of me remember!  I know I read a book or an article on the web once about a furniture maker who incorporated secret drawers in his work, lots of times without even telling his customers - they found out after the fact.

   If I think of it.....will let you know.....

   I am suffering from "sometimers" at a young age lately, so don't hold you breath!

   Check out all the spice box articles you can get your hands, or computer screen, on. They tend to have secret compartments and one or two like you are asking about.

   I made one to fit under the bathroom vanity kick. Nothing fancy no slides just wooden runners.
   The vanity was dark colored so I really darkened the kick and just made a small finger pull as near the top I could get. It was as close to invisible as possible.

   Secret Compartments, a Furnituremaker's Cache Box by Christian Becksvoort - article in FW and I believe in the online archive.

   You don't need Google, your kind hosts here have published a woodworking book and magazine article or two.
