I know much has written on drum sanders in the past so rather than start a new post I was trying to see what had previously been written. My trouble is I can’t get the search engine to go back to find anything. Just typing in drum sanders yields no results. Any suggestions? In case that doesn’t work I am looking at the new JET 22-44 Oscillating Drum Sander. Thought I would take advantage of 5% off, no sales tax and free shipping from one of the tool suppliers. Anyone have one of these and would you recommend it? bob

Bob, you are right the search engine does not work, have tried several items myself. Matt says it will be a google search soon, but for now you are stuck. I have read one tool review on the sander and heard great things about it. One of my suppliers here owns a personal Jet 18" non oscilation and it works great for his cabinet doors. He keeps 80 grit on it and then just uses oscilators to finish it. His opinion is the time it takes to change paper is not worth the effort. Sorry I could not add more info, but at 50% off I would consider it. I just flattened a 8 doors by hand with my jack plane, I needed the excercise hehe...

Bob,
I have the 22-44 Oscilating sander, I love it, no regrets at all. But it is a little pricy. I posted a review here on FWW.com if you can't find it here, go to Lumberjocks my review is there as well as a couple of others. I just checked on it before sending you there.
Be prepared with a couple of extra bodies when you go to put it together. The assembly is really easy, it's just when you have to get the head up onto the stand. It's really heavy and unbalanced for lifting.
The only other thing I can think of to pay close attentsion to is take the time to read the adjustments and tracking of the feed belt.
Make sure you have good dust collection hooked up to it.
I can only think of one thing they should change on it. And that is the catch on the lid over the roller. It is a real stupid cheap, for lack of a better word-lock. And the lid is plastic cheap plastic at that. They need a better kid is what my gripe is. If look at one in a showroom you'll understand what I mean.
The other thing is you need to have infeed & outfeed tables for it. They don't come with it! I went back and bought the ones that are made for it, but I still need a larger surface. Without the infeed/outfeed tables, it is real easy to get snipe on pieces over about 18".
Have fun making sawdust,
Taigert
