I have read several articles on working and finishing MDF. I am currently in the pre-priming stage. I am sealing the exposed edges of the MDF with spackling paste. This seems to be rather time consuming and messy. Is there anything else I can use besides spackle that will seal MDF edges “quicker” and is paintable?
Heavy coat of oil based BIN…Shellac…etc.
Thanks

This is not something that I have to do but I would suggest you try something like Bondo. Minwax has a version also.
It stinks like hell because of the styrene in it but it dries FAST, sands easy and is paintable.
Mix only as much hardener in an amount you can use in five minutes or so.
Sorry for the delay. I'm on the road.

Thanks Peter. One last thought...can I spray the exposed edges with BIN Primer oris it best to seal them with a spackle/bondo?
I have used auto body filler (the red one). Works fine, dry fast and is easy to sand.
Thanks Mahogany! With 2 recco's, I will give it a try!
