I am researching scroll saws, with marquetry as a primary use.
I am early in this search, and have heard a bit about Hegner saws, but not much else. I would be interested in advice from others about features to consider, brands that readers have had good or bad experiences with, and so on.
Additionally, if there are any marquetry woodworkers who know about a web site whose focus is this specialty I would appreciate a heads up.
Thanks!!

Here are a couple links. Some folks prefer a treadle scroll saw to power. Fret and jewelers saws are another option for precise control. The Hegner's are top of the line.

Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I'm not a scroller, as such. I do have a Hegner in my cabinet shop as part of my tool compliment. Bought it about 20 years ago. It runs like a sewing machine. Extremely well engineered and a pleasure to cut with. Blade changes are a little bit of a nuisance though, especially if you do a lot of fretwork. I've never used them but some of the new blade tensioning devises on the newer saws are much better (faster) for that type of work.
A Google search should turn up sites that cater just to scrollers.

The other top-drawer name I know of to consider is the RBI Hawk <click>. I would strongly recommend visiting some dedicated scroll saw forums. I've found the scrollers to be an incredibly helpful bunch, and they really know their machines.
You could also contact Mike at http://www.mikesworkshop.com He is the seller of the Flying Dutchman saw blades, and he's also a very talented scroller. I don't know if he has a "prejudice" to one saw or the other (you know, Chevy v. Ford) but his opinion would be worth listening to.

Hola! try this ,http://www.cofil.it/Pages/Products/Fret_Saw_Machines.aspx sas.
Here is another approach. John Eifler acquired the rights to this hand powered marquetry saw and has improved it over time. He has taught numerous people to do marquetry with this saw. I can say from personal experience that it enables one to cut very precise patterns with good control.

Good luck, Tom.
Thanks, Tom.
That is an interesting approach! I wonder if it could be converted to a treadle saw!

I use a dewalt saw for all my marquetry work and have no trouble with it. You don't need a super high end saw to get great results.
