As the current functioning carpenter in my local school district, (as well as a self employed furniture builder)I would like to share what our state safety inspector (and woodworker) asked me to do in our district shop pertaining to the tablesaw: “The guard was the first thing to go in my home shop and all that I ask is that you lower the blade when you are not using the saw.” I saw the wisdom of this and do it in my own shop too. The bonus besides safety is that it keeps the raise/lower mechanism limber!

Just a thought - does it keep it limber or wear it out faster? I do the same thing as you and the inspector.
