I have a Delta Unisaw that was given to me. The top is covered in rust, how do I go about removing this and preventing it in the future? Any products to use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mike the novice,
I have the dubious honor of living on a saltwater island where absolutely everything rusts in short order including fellow novice woodworkers.
There are gazillions of products on the market for rust prevention and removal; I use jet fuel (read kerosene) and double ought steel wool; rub gently and when thoroughly dry apply a good paste wax as required.
Good luck and dont smoke.
It's true !! there are a gazillion products for rust removal, Acid base, Caustic base. The acid bases (in my opinion) are the pits, especially on cast iron, they tend to open up "pores" And leave an ugly black stain. I restore vintage tools and I start with the finest grade of silicon carbide wet/dry I can get away with and progress to 1200 grit. I uses a 5" VS random orbit sander. I can see the drywall spackel marks on my shop ceiling. Finish up by wiping down with mineral spirits or lacquer thinner then give it a good coat of Johnsons paste wax.
