Unfortunately, I’ve created a bit of a problem for myself and need to use my router template guides that came with my Bosch 1617EVSPK to make a patch. I thought I had some books with some instructions on how I would go about doing that, but I was wrong. So, I turned to google, but haven’t had much luck finding any good info. You’d think Bosch would include some with the product instructions, but they’re pretty useless.
If anyone could link me to an article or provide some guidance, I would be grateful.
I’m also curious…should I use an upcut or downcut spiral bit for this? Does it matter? What’s the difference? (It’s a pretty small patch)
Thanks in advance for the help.

Do you mean instructions for an inlay set? Here's a link to the LV instructions:

You'll need to make a template. You can use either an inlay kit like Jim suggested or use one of the correct combinations of straight bit diameters and outside diameters of bushings. I won't try to do the math at this time of night, and it what you bushings and bits you have. Anyways, one bit/bushing combination is used with the template to rout the cavity and another combination is used to make the patch. I wouldn't expect any owner's manual to cover anything but the most basic techniques (feed direction), Sometimes I think the only reason I read them is for kicks.
A downcut spiral bit will create cut than an up-cut. An up-cut would be particularly useful when mortising, as it evacuates chips like a drill bit. A downcut bit on the other hand pushes the chips away from the router, into the cavity.
An excellent book an all things routing is Woodworking with the Router by Bill Hylton.

Not sure what to say. I have a new Bosch (the same) that will take a standard old brass inlay bushing or all the others.. I think I read it in the manual. Have not tried to use it though. As I recall the Bosch bushing kit was extra purchase.
I have only called Bosh once but found the 'person' on the other end helpful...
Down Cut will keep the top edge of the wood 'clean and sharp'. Up-Cut gets the sawdust out! Be careful with down-cuts. Take your time and vacuum out the 'trash' or you may break the tiny inlay bit from compacted sawdust..
Bosch states in the manual that the base is factory centered for the bushing set.. Don't believe it. OK, So maybe abused in shipping by UPS or whatever..
Maybe this will help??

You can buy an adapter for standard inlay bushings or you can buy their RA1127 Inlay Kit. Bosch has that funny, "easy to use" snap in template guide system that conveniently only fits their stuff. It wouldn't be a big deal if I could ride over to Lowes or some other local distributor and get one, but nobody around me carries this Bosch item. Thank God for Amazon. I'll just have to wait a few days.
I appreciate everyone's help on this. I was hoping I had what I needed already, but that just wasn't the case. The three template guides that came with my router don't have a difference in size that allows for a perfect fit with a standard diameter router bit. I guess that would require too much common sense and thus prevent them from having an accessory to sell.
As others have said Bosch sells a set of their guide bushings that only fit Bosch base plates. If you have a set of PC style guide bushings and want to use them, what I have found to really work good is the sub-base sold by Pat Warner (routerman here on Knots). Pat's stuff is top notch and he ships quick. Here is the page on his website describing the base. Send him an email, if you are a good guy Pat ships while your check is on the way to him. Pat's website has many other helpful tools and a ton of great information.
