I am looking to buy a router two piece combo kit. My choices are the Bosch 1617EVSPK, The Porter Cable 895PK or the Milwaukee 5616-24 . Any suggestions base on experence? It will be used as a hand held as well as table mounted unit. I am serious but learning woodworking hobbist.

For a long time I used a PC 690 in my router table. I didn't upgrade unti I decided that I needed to run a big panel raiser. Then I went for the PC SpeedMatic, which lives in the router table. The nice thing is that the 690 is relatively inexpensive, but still a quality tool, which preserves funds for additional capabilites.
I agree with Doc. I used a 690 in my router table for literally decades. When it came time to upgrade the router in the table, I bought a "D" handle base for the 690 and continue to use it as my handheld router today.
Thanks, I`ll be looking at the 690. Looks like I might be buying two now.
Thanks Doc for the information.
Milwaukee!!! I bought the Bosch first, then the Milwaukee, then the Porter Cable (all the models you listed. I still have all three, and the Milwaukee is the one which I reach for first.

Like I was telling Doc and Quickstep Looks like I will be in the market for two. As of now, Milwaukee 5616-24 will be one of them . I have the Grizzly saw with the router table bed attached. I think I will strap one under there and give it a try. ( I have a stand alone table also) I might put the PC speedamatic there. For shaping as well as routing. If not the PC vs690 -- Thanks for your input
Note: The stand alone table is an old Craftsman type that I might do away with.

I sold a Bosch and DW 621 to get the Milwaukee 24 Combo pack. I used a PC 690 for years. I run a Milwaukee 3 1/2 HP in my table. The Milwaukees's are Hosses and my weapon of choice at this point.
Good luck...Sarge..
