Durning the past week it seems all my 1/2″ router bits are sticking in the collet. No visible signs of rust or corrosion on both bit and collet. Yet all my bits are sticking in the collet and are a pain in the
to remove! This has only started recently. Should i polish out inside the collet a tad? I hate to try to use a vicegrip to help in yankingthem out due to scratching the shank rendering them useless?
Anyone have an idea what i could try?

What make of router do you have? Some have a safety feature that requires a two step process. First loosen the collet nut and twist as far as you can by hand. Then, again use you wrench to make the final loosening. This pops the bit right out.
Also, be sure your collet is installed correctly. The internal gripper must be correctly seated to work.
Most older collets stick on me. I think the metal inside just squeezes in after you have it tightened for a while. A new collet would probably solve the problem. Don't leave bits in the router, and the collett won't get stickyy as fast. Or you could just live with it.

If your router is one of the newer Bosches or the collet has a similar self eject design, I found out the hard way you *don't* tighten the collet down without a bit in it. Doing so displaces a snap ring within the collet that will cause the bit to bind big time.
Take the collet all the way off and see if there isn't such a snap ring on it that might not be seated in the proper groove. Once I figgered that out, all was back to normal.

All my PC routers I have to whack the nut with the wrench then it comes right out. I haven't seen a PC that I didn't have to do this!

Took me an hour and 10 to get home from Cerritos to Fountain Valley last night. Not as bad as I expected. Glad I didn't have to deal with that shutdown on the 5. Most of the 605 drivers were playing it safe, doing only 55-60. I had a dipstick in a lowered Honda with a paint can exhaust riding my butt for a while. Too bad it was so dark, he obviosly couldn't see my extended 3rd digit. I wish I had a 'Silent Radio' display in the back window of the Elco where I could punch-up canned messages. It would have said "If you hit me rest assured you will be needing medical attention one way or the other".John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

Try removing the collet ,clean the dust from inside the shaft and the outside of the collet. Then put a smear of paste wax inside the shaft take care not to get any on the bit gripping part of the collet.I have found this to work well over the years

thanks for input, i finally fould the culprit, caked up dust in the collet. It has escaped my eye.
