Hi everyone, in February i was away in England ,my wife here in Australia accidentally
turned the TV on to “This old house”. On this program someone was using a gadget
that somehow recorded the room shape and size and this information was then emailed back to the workshop where a very accurate template was then made.
Since then I have been trying to find out more info on this tool with no result. I wondered if anyone in the knots community could help.? Thanks.

I believe I saw this episode, and the contractor was using it to fit a kitchen for countertops. Unfortunately I doubt it would be useful to you because I think it was a custom made item. He used a computer connected to a scribe (and a laser, but I'm not sure) to not just measure but pick up the tiny fluctuations in the wall needed to fit countertops. I thought it was pretty cool, but very specialized and difficult for the novice to make.

ButtChin,
The counter top was for a NO house but the contractor they have used many times before on Boston, Washington, etc. I have seen similar equipment used on 'Home Time' too.
Usually additional info is available on TOH's website about contractors.
Try searching on Woodweb. I found this there for you.
