Happy new year to everyone-I have about a dozen sets of ridgid 13″ planer throwaway blades that cost 52.bucks a shot up here in the north. I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to take the edge off them and maybe get one more round out of them?

Yeah Bob. I have the same planer and a few sets of knives stored about. I have re-sharpened them on a diamond stone, 600 grit, and re-used them. I've used a wooden block about 6" long and cut at the angle of the blade as a kind of half fast guide. It's not as great as a new set, but in a clinch, they work better than a dull set. In fact, I've sharpened them very slowly without a guide by just keeping that bevel flat against the diamond plate. I can't believe you have to pay $50 for a new set!!! Next time you need some, contact me and I'll get them at my local H.D. for $29.95 and send them to you. Even with second-day shipping you'd save a bundle. Tim
thanks for the reply tim. Yes they are a tad expensive aren't they. I am going down to texas next week to visit my daughter, can pick some up down there, I'm just not sure how the airlines would like me carrying them aboard. I am heading out to the shop in a few minutes to try your suggestion. Happy New YearTim, bob
