There are quite a few good respirators available. One of the most important issues is that it fits your face correctly. They often come in small, medium and large. One brand that I like is the 3M R-6211, a half face style. It's good for paints and pesticides and has replaceable cartridges. You can't use it with acids, formaldehyde or isocyanurates. Instructions come with it for use and maintenance.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
3M 7500 is probably the most raved about.
Comfy, standard cartridges, and readily available.
3M has done their homework and made some great masks though, you'll probably get 9/10 3M recommendations if you ask 10 people.
