Hi Gary,
I have a sheet of jarrah veneered 19mm (3/4″) plywood that is too dark in colour for my project (entertainment unit). I want to resaw some suitable jarrah and dress it back to about 1mm and glue it to the plywood. Should I butt joint the resawn veneer then glue it to the plywood, or can I go ahead an glue each strip (70mm wide) directly to the plywood. Also, given that the ply has already been veneered on both sides with jarrah is it necessary to reveneer the backside with the thicker veneer. Appreciate your help here.
Regards,
Bob (Sydney, Australia)

Hey Bob,
I would make up my new veneer panel first. Glue up the edge joints with glue and veneer tape. Then prep the surface of the veneer, scrap off the tape and excess glue and glue this onto your plywood. I would glue both faces of the plywood to keep the package in balance. If you use a vacuum bag, you can simply do both faces at once. Good luck.
