I HAVE JUST FINISHED A DINING ROOM TABLE TOP WITH SATIN MINWAX POLYSHADE (3 COATS) AND IT IS STILL TOO SHINY. I HAVE ORBITAL SANDED WITH 1000 GRIT PAD WITH ONLY MINIMAL EFFECT … HOW CAN I SOFTEN THIS FINISH?

Hello,
If 1000 grit sandpaper or steel wool doesn't work. Apply one coat of poly with a duller finish to the table. I would test this procedure in a small inconspicuous area first.

Thanks. I am trying the 1000 grit sandpaper that a friend of mine also recommended. It seems to be working yet subtly the finish is lighter. Another person told me not to use the ployshade, but to stain the base to exactly the color desired and then use clear poly ... then there will be no color change if sanding out a portion of a layer. Sounds reasonable. And thanks again for the response. I only wanted the poly for the protection it provides.
