I have some brass-plated steel hinges that I need to remove the brass plating from, in order to give the appearance of a zinc finish. I remember reading of a simple liquid solution that brass plated metal can be soaked in to accomplish this, but can’t remember what it is. Can someone refresh my memory? Thanks. GP

I wouldn't think that you'd have to remove the brass. I would just pickle it clean in sparex #2 and then tin it. The tinning will give a similar appearance to galvanizing with less work. You just flux and then heat the steel while applying tin like solder. It's much easier than plating and gives a nice thick coating. The brass will be easier to tin over than the bare steel. If you do galvanize it I'd still go right over the brass.
