Hi all
My wife has a white cabinet in the bedroom she want’s refinished to a more natural color. She’s sick of the bright white finish.
The cabinet is about 25 years old in good shape.
I think the finish is a sprayed lacquer, but not sure.
Can I simply sand it smooth (not removing the old finish) and respray it, or will it need some extra preparation (like a shellac coat).
Or am I better off gluing on a new 1/4″ wood top to it?
I’m sure the cabinet is just plain sheet stock underneath.

Don't sand. It just makes a mess. Strip it with stripper. But depending on the grain of the wood, you may not be able to get all the paint off.
