Shel--I reply the same way to most woodturning questions: find a local chapter of the American Assoc. of Woodturners. You can find a chapter thru their website at http://www.woodturner.org. Its much easier to learn from experienced turners hands-on.They can also recommend tools, and probably let you try some of their own.
