So here I am with my new VARIABLE SPEED Makita random orbit sander, (My old single speed Porter Cable fell apart after a few years)and now I don’t know anything about speed limits. I’ve been told that the slower the speed the more aggressive is the sanding. My intuition tells me that the sander is most aggressive at high speeds. Should be a simple solution but I haven’t found it in articles about sanding. I know that people reading this query know the answer. Please help. Shalom

Shalom,
Maybe a silly question, but did you read the instruction manual? My Makita came with a nice little booklet which on one page outlined what the different speeds are for. Low speed are for polishing. High speeds are for more agressive stock removal.

Ouch, how embarrassing. My wife always tells me to read the instructions first.Thanks. Shalom
Wait those booklets are supposed to be read? I thought they were just some sort of additional packing material.

(Don't forget to tell us how you like the tool (or don't like it) after you have had a chance to work with it. I place more value on these types of reviews then on the mags.)
