In FWW #182 (Feb 2006) Methods of Work Column featured a simple router table. The question I have is what to use for the plastic insert and where to purchase the material from..

I use 3/8" lexan available from any glass shop

Actually, you don't need a plastic insert. Just screw the base of your router to the underside of the table.
That's the way I made my first router table -- many moons ago.
