Hey Gang,
Currently have a machine (jointer) with a 5 hp 3 ph motor – 3450 RPM.
Both pulleys are 5″ in diameter.
If I swapped out the motor for a single phase motor that is 1750 RPM, what size pulleys would be required for the cutterhead and motor to keep the cutterhead moving at the original speed?
Thanks in advance,
Lee

The motor pulley would need to be twice the diameter of the cutterhead pulley. The absolute sizes don't matter (within reason), only the ratio.

Thanks Steve, that's what I thought. For this application a 10" motor pulley is probably not realistic. I will likely pay the extra $60 for the 3450 RPM motor.
Thanks,
Lee
