I posted this yesterday, but somehow it ended up in the turning archives rather than the current page. Hope this gets to the right place.
I’m fairly new to turning and am having a problem with the Baraccuda 2 chuck system I just got from PSI. After I turn a cylinder and tenon on a spindle, I flip it around and clamp it in the chuck and tighten it down, engaging the free end in the live center. After working on the piece for while, the chuck loosens up and I have to retighten it. Often the workpiece starts to wobble and throws off the centerline of the turning. Sometimes I have to retighten the chuck 3 or 4 times to get it to stay put. I thighten it so much the jaws really dig into the wood. Is this a common problem with lathe chucks or is it this particular product? It was considerably cheaper than other brands like Nova and Oneway. Or is it a result of my very limited experience with turning? Any help and advice on turning in general would be greatly appreciated. Alan |

Hi Wooddood,
I've never used a chuck other than my Oneway Stronghold and I love it. Any chuck should stay put until you tell it otherwise. I've never had to tighten my chuck with any more pressure than what will cause small dimples in the wood. Since it is a new chuck I'd return it right away.
Good luck.
Vern.
I also use the Baraccuda 2 chuck system and have never had a problem.
