Peter,
I am building a large (72″ x 24″) corner desk, with two sets of drawers. The desk will be cherry, frame and panel construction and I plan to finish with Sunderland wiping varnish, total of four coats.
Would it be easier, or more effective to finish the individual members, rails, stiles etc., before glue up, or finish the assembled desk?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thx
Buck

Buck,
If you plan on finishing prior to glue up, be sure the areas to get glued are clean. You don't need oil on those surfaces that's for sure.
The other thing to consider; if you finish first you need to make sure you have the area to lay everything out to dry. Then you have to re-handle each component every time you put a new coat of finish on.
If it's put together it gets handled as a unit for finishing. Also when you are putting it together and bang or ding it, now you have a finish to repair.
Personally, I'd finish it after assembly.
Good luck.
Peter
