Hi,
For some reason I’m experiencing a problem with my flush trim bit. (pilot bearing is on the tip)I think the bearing might be worn. Never had this happen to me before. The bit isn’t cutting into the wood and it’s leaving a mark on the edge of the board.
Usually the bearing on the trim router bit follows along the template…. so the piece that you want to cut to match the template rests on top of the template.. overhaning it by a small margin. So the 2 pieces should be identical once cut with the router.
After cutting out the adirondak legs on the band saw I clamped the 2 pieces together on top of my workbench thinking it would only take one or 2 quick passes with the router to get perfectly matching legs. No such luck! For some reason the bit wasn’t cutting into the wood. Could this be caused due to a worn bearing??? I’ve used this bit before to joint boards and have never had any problems with it.

Are you sure the bearing was riding on the template if not set deep enough it will ride on the work just a thought,if the bearing was worn the bit would cut deeper into the work.

You can make it fool proof but not idiot proof
You said you clamped two pieces together, is your trim bit long enough to extend to the pattern under the two pieces. Sounds like the bearing is contacting one of your bandsawn parts. A bearing that stops rotating will still follow the pattern so I doubt your problem is caused by the bearing.
