In a thread on jointers a couple months ago someone mentioned good results using a 6” electric hand planer in lieu of a jointer. I’m interested in the idea and would like more info.

A 6" plane electric or not is a block plane. Jointers are fairly inexpensive, why bother with a hand held electric plane. I have used these small planes for one use only, to plane the top of a door while it is hanging.Even then it probably wouldn't take more time to place the door on horses and saw it.
You can't really straighten an edge, the 6" bed is too short. The Makita block plane I tried scribing base to the floor worked well for that purpose.

The Makita 6 3/4" electric hand plane has a bed length of 20 3/4".
It costs as much as a jointer but it can be carried in one hand.
