Hello Fellas
Again it has been quite awhile since I was here, life in general,up’s and down’s.family and my chainsaw hobby.today I would like your help on a portable vise that has been handed down from a good friend that passed away. It’s an aluminum portable vise.It was at one time sold at woodworking shows in Canada, probably the USA as well.My friend bought it a few years back.It looks to me to be a Zyliss vise, but the name is not stamped into it like the Zyliss. It may be a Bench Pro 2000 or something like that. From looking at those two mentioned models the one I have loks almost identical. The one I have has green soft jaws, but there is one part missing with the setup it is the portable auxillary base,or something like that.Does anyone have one of these vises? Are the parts interchangeable between the differnt makes? Can you still get parts for these vises? If you have one of these please let me know how you like it and so on.
Many Thanks Woodplane

Hi WP
I bought a Zyliss vise about 30 years ago. At that stage we lived in an apartment and I used the kitchen table as a temporary bench for the renovations I was completing. The Zyliss was perfect in that setup.
It ended up at the back of a shelf for a few decades, especially after I graduated to a workshop and decent bench with integral vises. However, about 2 or 3 years ago I "discovered" it and have found uses for it: saw vise, holding small metal parts (for grinding, rack for holding small parts (such as knives) while they dry ....
It is not a good substitute for a proper wood vise, but it is better than nothing when you need something. It is portable and it holds things in a versatile manner (don't you love the way the demonstrators "sell" it at the woodshows - it certainly always looks The Stuff), just remember that it is very light duty.
There is a manual here: http://www.advmachinery.com/manuals/Zvise.pdf
