Hello All
Just curious… A friend of mine visited Aus. recently. He went to a town named Padstow, NSW (not sure the correct spelling). Somewhere along Gow Street he saw a ww machines store displaying Powermatic cabinetsaw, bandsaw, jointer and thicknesser among other local makes.
As far as I know Powermatic is for US market. and other country with 60hz cycle power supply , correct me if I’m wrong.. that’s why most PM machines are powered by 120V (220V or 415V for 2HP & above). If I’m not mistaken, Australia is one of those country having 50hz frequency/cycle power supply.
I just wonder do they change motor to cater for Aus market?
Any one of you have the info and would like to share with me are most welcomed.
Thanks
Masrol

Thank you Eddie. Sorry for replying you very late!
I've been navigating the websites for a couple of weeks, but could not find
any. Your tips really helps me out.
Thanks again.

The machines are made in Asia and are set up as needed for the safety and electrical requirements of many different countries. This is standard operating procedure for companies that have a world wide market. Even Canada uses 50 Hz power.

You are correct, Australian standard power supplies are 240 V AC, at 50 cycles/sec.
Australian regs deny import licencing to articles for commercial sales which do not comply with ALL aspects of wiring regs.
Infringement penalties are severe!

Thank you for the info.
I've been thinking of buying PM cabinet-saw, Jointer and thicknesser in US and change the motors to fit my country's standard power supply (220V to 240V at 50hz).
I may save a lot if I import from Australia.
