Hello All –
Need some help – picked up a router and base at a tag sale this weekend – it needs rewiring. $ 6.00 purchase -cheap enough ? I never had a plunge router or even used one before. I took off the collar, brushes, took out the two long screws but it won’t separate so I can get to the wires. Please help –

PC?
Looks like an older Porter Cable. What's the model number?
PC
there is no tag on the motor - but it fits in the 6931 base -
yes it is an older model with the dome top

Sorry, I checked my stash of old manuals, but nothing on any of the old routers.
There appear to be small set screws around the rim of the dome. Have you tried removing those?
Definitely a PC 690 series plunge base, but a way older motor. I would suggest getting a new variable speed fixed base and swap between fixed and plunge as you need. Most of my bench routers are plunge. Plus a new router will give you a modern and new collet, that will be easily replaceable.
The motor may be an older 100 series

Hey Ralph + Bruce -
Thanks for helping - it turns out that with the info 100 series at least I could call PC and ask for advice - yea right - all they could do is recommend a repair place - the only manual for this style was too new - and it showed screws through the side of the body - mine doesn't have screws. I took a screw driver - wedged it into the seam and dented the case a little but twisting the screw driver equally around the body seemed to move the case off the housing. The bearing was really seated into the cup of the dome - I guess with age they don't want to come out so easy. Anyway - what a pain - I took off all the wire contacts and hammered them onto my new wire - channeled all the loose wires away from the spinning parts - tapped the body back together and yes it works great -
Just to change the wire took me 2 hours. I have lost respect for the tech service at PC - they wouldn't give me the right time of day - and I must have 20 of their machines.
