Has anyone had a good experience creating a piano black-edged piece with a veneer top? I was planning to create the pieces in mdf, tape off the tops and build up a black painted surface, then veneer the top and finish the entire piece….any opinions?

Sounds risky, once you have a high gloss finish on the MDF it will be very hard to do any other work without damaging the appearance of finished areas.
