Does anyone have a good recommendation on antique tool sources (e.g., antuque shops that specialize) that I can visit in the next 2 weeks in New England? I will be in eastern mass, Cape Cod, S. Vermont, and perhaps down the Maine coast to Bath area.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
thanks,
Randy

If you can get to Waterbury, Conn., check out Walt's tools at Brass City Records & Tools. I bought a Stanley #7 jointer from him a while back that I had to do very little to and that I use almost every day. He has good users reasonably priced. You can always give him a call ahead of time to see if he has what you're looking for. His website:

Thanks Norman. I probably won't get that far south this trip. Walt has been helpful in the past and I have found the tools from him to be accurately described in terms of quality and quite reasonable in price.

Liberty Tool Co. in Liberty, Maine... http://www.jonesport-wood.com/libertytool.html
multiple buildings stuffed, packed and jammed full of everything handtool related. A legend and a definite must see. And if you're coming down the coast from Liberty you can stop by Lie-Nielsen Toolworks and play with their toys in the hands on show room.

Thanks, Jeff. I have heard great things about the Liberty browsing experience but didn't have a link to the place. I appreciate it.

I have no personal experience with either. I have had personal experience with Jeff Pearson - was not impressed. He also operates out of the Mystic area.
I've heard much with respect to Liberty Tool - sounds like a great place.
I've bought more than a few things from Clarence Blanchard via mail order, and have always found items to be well described and fairly priced. If he is that good at mail order, I would expect his "in person" to be at least equal.

Oh, nice guy, as I recollect, I just wasn't 'in need' at the time. He was somewhere I was - maybe the Maine Boat Builder's show, I'm not certain. When I was 'in need' he weren't in sight!
