I just acquired two old machines from a neighbor who was cleaning out his garage and needed to get rid of them. The first machine is a jointer. It has two 4″ knives in the cutterhead. It is tan in color, and says “craftsman” on the pulley on the cutterhead shaft. It is all cast iron, the table itself is pretty rusty. The guard is missing. The total length of both beds is about 24″. It sits on a shopmade wooden stand and appears as though the motor would sit below and drive the cutterhead via a belt, just like a newer model. The motor is missing.
The second machine is a scrollsaw. It has a Sears tag and model # on it. I’m not too familiar with scrollsaws, but I think this is a fairly large one. It has a 16″ x 16″ cast iron table and there is 24″ from the blade to the frame. This does have a motor that did run.
These machines have been around awhile. I’m not sure what to do with them. I have a 6″ Delta jointer that I hardly use and I’ve never had a need for a scrollsaw. I didn’t want to turn down free machines; they were either going to me or the treelawn. Now I can’t decide if they are worth fixing up and either keeping or selling, or if they aren’t worth the trouble. How do you decide when a machine is actually worthy of repair or just junk?
I haven’t taken any pictures of them. If I get some pics and figure out how to post them I will. Any advice is appreciated.

Put 'em on Craigslist if you don't need them, $40 each.

The jointer is probably more trouble than it's worth. The scroll saw, however, is a keeper. You may decide to do an inlay or two and the scroll saw will certainly come in handy. It's good for cutting small pieces that you'd rather not do on a TS or BS as well.
Good luck, Jim
dp,
Sounds like you have no need for the jointer so the question to you is do you have any need for the scroll saw ?
If you have no need then use them for trading material , trade barter swap sell or exchange for something you can use .
regards dusty
You can send the scroll saw to me, I could use one.
I sold one of my extra jointers thru Craigs list. The other extra jointer will be give to a nephew.
Need metal wwodworking vise (with a split nut)?
