Is there a way of downloading messages so that I can read them offline?

Uncle,
I haven't tried it but if you hit "Subscribe" while reading a specific message you'll see a box to check for off-line reading for that specific discussion. That might do it for you.
I'm surprised there are still internet service providers charging by the minute. I thought almost everyting now if monthly unlimited.
Good luck.
Seth
My solution is to use NoCharge.com. As the name implies, there is no fee for internet access, but it is first come - first served. I'm retired so it doesn't present a problem to use it during off peak hours, and I get right in. If you try it, be sure to use a "local call" phone number, as the long distance charges would make the monthly ISP rates look good.. Good luck..... BobS
It could be that Uncle is referring to long-distance charges, as opposed to ISP-connection charges. Personally, I'm more than glad to pay $21.95/month for the excellent service I get from EarthLink (including spam protection via Spaminator). However, I'd be in serious trouble if I had to pay long-distance charges too! Wow.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Greetings from the other side of the sound. If the expense were for long distance charges, then I'd go to Costco and buy a 575 minute phone card for $19.95; that brings your call to $2.08 for an hour, anytime of the day and any where in the USA.
For an occassional user, that might be better than a monthly ISP charge; assuming that the ISP has a local phone number for Uncle. There are still many areas in the boonedocks where no local ISP service is available.
Take Care FS.
Good idea! Yep, I have one of those cards -- I love when I make a call and the lovely lady-voice informs me that I have "Three Hundred and Thirty-two Minutes for this Call."
PS: Two questions! Are you in Seattle, or where? Are you a Mariners' fan?!

East hill above Kent; and the Mariners are on every night in this house.

Yep, same here (with the TV/ball games). I own the sportscards shop on Bainbridge (we sell games and other trading cards also, very youth-oriented store). If you get over this way, stop on by! We have some good restaurants and a great pub.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Did someone say "Pub". I live on the East Coast and spent 10 days in London and loved it. The pubs over there were fantastic. We have nothing like it in this area and wish we did. I spend a lot of time in there.

Hi Dave,
Well, I don't know how ours would rate compared to an English pub, but it's pretty nice. All hardwood floors and built-in-the-1800's frame building, now a historical site, right next to Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island. They serve a great variety of beers and ales, hard cider, seafood and other yummies. The deck overlooking the harbor (which is full of sailboats) has absolutely the largest sun/rain umbrella I've ever seen. Music on weekend nights. Glorious gardens leading up to the front door.
I'm not a beer drinker, more's the pity, but I have developed a penchant for hard cider!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
