When you look at the number of posts that users have to their “credit” currently it is listed as very low or none. This is because of the data move. In a week or 2 we will be doing some more Database work and the numbers associated with each user will be restored. QUestions on this or anything please let me know.

will any posts during this period be added to the previous number to keep the total up to date?
Yes all posts that are created now will be added to the total when we do the final conversion in a week or so. So post away and add onto that total.
Uh, why does anyone care how many posts someone has made? Is it relevant?
Ego1 - measure the board twice, 2 - cut it once, 3 - measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 - get a new board and go back to step 1
When someone posts a recommendation of a tool, you can guess it's an ad if the person's got only one or two posts. Beyond that, I don't know that it adds any useful information.
FatherJohn:
I do not agree that you can guess it is an ad. It simply means that the person is either new to the site or has been lurking. It has been pointed out that it may indicate a newbie and certainly an unproven source. However not an ad.
Everyone who has posted at this site started with a message count of 1. We all were not posting ads.
Just my thoughts, not meant to be confrontational. Please accept my thought in the spirit offered.

Oh goodness, I don't think you're picking a fight, and in fact I agree with you. :) I don't just assume anyone with only one or two posts is posting an ad. I sort of short-circuited my explanation, is all.
Let's say I see a post, and it's someone saying "my goodness, the Acme Widget is the best thing ever -- it's the first machine to make handmade dovetails! really!"
Now, if the person's on his first or second post, I'm unlikely to want to chase the link. If it's someone who's earned attention by putting time in here, I'm likely to go read it (unless the claim is preposterous on its own, in which case I wouldn't even bother to check the poster).
I only responded because, for me, there is occasionally some perceived value in being able to see for how long someone has been a member, and how much they've posted, and this thread was discussing the presence and utility of post counts.
I also understand that a low post count indicates few posts, not little knowledge. As a rank beginner, I can learn from just about everyone. :)
It really isn't all that relevant but usres like to see it so I wanted to make sure that it was out on the table.
Rather than 'ego', I think the count has to do with creditability. I check the count as a way to determine whether the poster can be taken seriously or is perhaps a newbie and should perhaps be viewed as an unproven source.
I don't think the number of posts has any relationship to credibility, skill level or knowledge. Think of a Maloof or Krenov starting to post under a pseudonym. Then again, a gazillion posts to one's credit doesn't ensure even basic woodworking skills as witness the occasional forays here from avid posters on Taunton's other forums who have in excess of 15,000 posts. Essentially, nunber of posts is meaningless.
