Hi,
Looking for a wood education. I am a metal fabricator working in the fine furniture end of things. Have started to design some of my own stuff and am looking for a comprehensive guide to wood types. I work with several cabinet / furniture shops so I don’t really need a “How to guide” so much as pictures of wood types. I found certainlywood.com helpful but less than extensive. What I am really looking for is a photo encyclopedia of woods, online or in print.
Thanks.

Beautiful metalwork - is that a sofa table or a bench? Hard to tell the scale from the pic.
There are lots of resources out there. Online, Hearne has a nice clickable page: http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/hardwoods/exotic_hardwoods/wood_pictures.html
Incomplete, to be sure, but I don't think anybody has all species in one place.
I have this book: http://www.amazon.com/Real-Wood-Bible-Illustrated-Decorative/dp/1554070333/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260558965&sr=8-10
Excellent color pictures and info. Also incomplete.
Quite a bit of woods here

some of the wood sites are missing some glaringly popular woods. Like was said none complete. Couldn't be, to state the obvious, because there is an overwhelming variety of wood out there but some of the omissions are everyday woods.
Years ago I looked for a while for what you ask for and gave up in frustration. I didn't find anything I thought was adequate enough and to buy a few was too expensive.
