bought a new Jorgenson 10″ vise for my birthday (If you can’t be nice to yourself, who can you be nice to???) and after mounting it I noticed the faces are out of alignment – side to side. The right hand upper corner touches first, and leaves a 1/16+ opening on the top left side. I took it out and remounted it and same thing. I finally planed the wood face plates to meet correctly, but wonder if this is common or ??

These vise are intentionally made to toe in at the top. Under pressure the face are parallel.
On my big old Record the top corners hit at the same time. Vise purchased in ~ year 2000

There is the intentional top to bottom tapered gap but the top corners hit at the same time.

I have a Jorgensen, and it doesn't do this. As other posters noted, the vise is made so that it intentionally closes at the top before the bottom, but it should be dang near perfect side-to-side. I'd take the vise back.
The guide rods (on either side of the acme-threaded rod) should have some adjustment on the nut end. Tightening one side or the other may even up the problem.
thanks to all for the suggestions. I found no way to adjust the jaws laterally (they are appropriately not aligned vertically - top hits first as it should. The planed wood jaw liner is working nicely, so if I can get my perfectionism under control and move on, all should be well. I still think it's got something to do with the install, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.bc
