I was at my local tool distributor and was about to buy a new 14″ bandsaw. I have decided not to buy an 18″ primarily due to space limitations.
The dealer told me about Jet’s new line of band saws coming out very soon. He said they are going to have a new 16″ saw and improvements to their 14″ and 18″ band saws. I suppose there may be new band saws from other manufacturers on their way also. He convinced me that it might be worth the wait.
Has anyone heard or seen any of these yet?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike I haven't heard about the 16" and there is nothing on their website. I just sent an email directly to the rep to see what he says. I sure like my 18" but the 16" would have fit my shop much nicer.

Mike,
I'm also looking to purchase a new BS (bandsaw). I was told the same about Jet, wait until their new model comes out. I have also looked into the 16" BS by Laguna Tools. To cut to the chase have Laguna Tools mail you their BS video -- I was very impressed.

I'm a little confused.
As far as bandsaws go there is no real size difference in a 14" and most 18" band saws.
I have a laguana lt16, does not take up more space that I can tell.
Although I is heavyer.

You is heavier than what? LOL, just couldn't resist!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

A bum asked a man for $5. “Will you buy booze with the money?”
The bum said, “No”.
“Will you gamble it away?”
The bum replied, “No.”
Will you bet on football games?” the man asked.
The bum said, “I don’t watch football.”
The man said, “I’ll give you $5 if you come home with me so my wife can see what happens to a man who doesn’t drink, gamble or watch football.”

John, I was not referring to size I was referring to needs. Steve - in Northern California
John,
I may be wrong, but I thought the footprint, or the square feet of shop space that an 18" bansaw fills is larger than that of a 14". If not, I will definitely consider an 18".
I'm working out of my 2-car garage, where my PM66, 15" planer, European style workbench, etc., share space with the washer, dryer, water heater and furnace. Every square foot is valuable.
If I could, I would build a laundry room and move the furnace and water heater elsewhere, but my floor plan does not permit that. I would build my shop elsewhere, but my lot size does not permit that. My next house will be smaller with a large enough lot to build a detached 40' x 40' shop out back!

the difference is not much, go for the larger saw.
