Hi everyone. I am looking at buying a benchtop mortiser. I was wondering if anyone had any advice, pros and cons.
I looked at the Delta 14-651, the Jet JBM-5, and cant quite afford the powermatic so its really between the delta and jet. I could only look online though. Closest woodcraft is an hour + away.
Any experiences and advice would be appreciated. I have seven coffee, hall and endtables to build.

Which one
The Delta is definitely the better of the two units. Much better fence. But I do my mortises with jigs and a plunge router with a spiral up-cut bit.
I also do my mortises with a plunge router and pc micro adjust guide. However I have seven tables to build, and thats 56 mortises. Gets a little hard on the back.
Four of the tables are a paying job and will easily pay for the machine.
I'm cheap
56 mortises boils down to about $5.00 each. Too much for my budget.

Seriously, I've been considering the Delta 14-651, too. It's obviously not a "high production" unit, but the reviews I've seen are favorable.

Fox Pro?
One of the magazines recently did tests of the mortise machines and surprisingly gave their nod for both best and best value to the what I remember as a Fox Pro something or other. It was $100 less than the delta which they also praised.
