Need advice on vacuum cleaners not for the shop to free up my Fein for the shop
I keep lugging the Fein up stairs into the house to clean the house. I want to outfit the house and keep the Fein in the shop.
Firstly could you recommend a vacuum that is a small hand held or there abouts not for electronics so much as crumbs, shavings and dirt and leaves tracked in.
A long time ago I picked up the older version of this
http://www.amazon.com/Shop-1%252dgal%252e-Hang%252dUp-Wet%252fDry-Vacuum/dp/B0001FFM3O/ref=sr_1_10?s=power-hand-tools&ie=UTF8&qid=1292988727&sr=1-10
They were practically giving them away at $19. The first time it clogged up vacuuming up a few leaves off the carpet in the car I began to look at the design and found it questionable. The leaves clogged up against the side of this huge cloth filter over the cage for the wet vac float ball and the side of the container. Hardly any room in the “One Gallon” container.
This is a wet dry. I have no use for a wet dry. Just a dry only would be best for me. The smaller the better.
Bag verses container that we just dump ?
Here is what I am considering getting for the house when I vac the whole house. ( I went back to old threads here and agree a central vac system would be great but we rent.)

Here is the best I could find for the small hand held so far but not sure the quality is OK. Seems like I saw a look alike for way cheeper than this $79 one. The 80 dollars is fine I just want to be sure I am not buying a twenty dollar vac for 80 dollars. Any body have one that looks like this? How do you like it ?

What do you recommend for these two purchases:
1. A very small vac
2. A compact vac to clean a small house with stairs.

DYSON ! The engineering on this thing is awesome. I don't have the ball version. I like this thing so much I won't let my wife use it. She doesn't argue. So easy to empty. I'm talking about the full sized Dyson, not the car vac which I have heard might have some problems and not the 2/3 version. I took a ten foot hunk of PVC pipe, cut some slits in one end and jammed it into the hose of the Dyson when we had a stink bug invasion this summer and was able to vacuum the little buggers off our cathedral ceiling.
399 is a lot for the 2/3 size. I think if you shop around you can get a full sized Dyson for that much.
DYSON
I bought thepurple "Animal Hair" Dyson 4 years ago. When I got it home, I prepped the carpet by vacuuminng thoroughly with my old vacuum. When I ran the Dyson over the areas where I had cleaned, the Dyson brought up a ton of dirt and hair the other machine didn't touch. It is amazing how well this machine works. It is easy to use, easy to empty and cleans phenominally well. even though they are expensive, they are well worth the investment. Take the approach with your vacuum purchase like you would with a new power tool: Buy the best you can afford.
New B & D Model
This year the hand held vacuum we were using in the house quit working. Just about the same time I received an email from Black and Decker about their new model. It's unlike any of the other hand held vacuums they sell. The vac is called the Black & Decker FHV1200 Flex Vac Cordless Ultra-Compact Vacuum Cleaner. Amazon is currently selling them for $65 with free shipping. My wife and m-i-l love it. They love the cordless feature and the hose is very handy.
If you want cheap then ignore my response
No doubt about it, the Festool Vac. It's ability is fantastic, that sucker (paron the pun) gets the job done and filters the air and with tool activated on/off. The variable vac is nice as well. Comes in handy when sanding.
THIS is easy !
I own the Fein for the shop.
I own the Dyson for the house. Threw away brandX when the Dyson arrived.
Don't know about handhelds, but within the philosophy of the race going to the swift and strong, I have to imagine the Dyson DC 31 on sale at Best Buy for $175 would be good. They supposedly have fixed their battery issues. Now works for ten continuous minutes.
I DO however own four crappy handhelds! All four have wild unfulfilled illusions of mediocrity. My fifth will be the Dyson DC 31.
Now we're cooking with gas.
wild unfulfilled illusions of mediocrity
Ha, ha, ha, ha
those hand helds , B&D and Dyson, are space age looking !
thanks to both
household vacs
I like my Dyson for floors, but find the wand inconvenient for detached use. Couldn't imagine trying to use it for stairs, though. The hand-held DC31 is a surprise, considering Dyson's stance on engineering. A ten-minute battery life is laughable.
For a corded handheld, I'd lean toward the Eureka 71B

For cordless, how about the DeWalt DC515K?

At least the battery could be shared with DeWalt cordless tools.
In both cases, the detachable hose is the critical feature in my book.
Wohhh There Bones
You might be reading the posts a little fast. I think you missed my request. I already spent the five big ones for the vac for my shop with the tool triggered on off. Unless Festool has a handheld or a minivac. I didn't see one on the manufacture's site.
Thanks for taking the time !
Happy Holidays
Yep, must have had one eye open
Sorry bout that yep did mis read. For my home I use the oreck. I use to hate the wife screaming carry the upright up the steps. Solved it with the oreck. She can carry that just fine. :)
Great vac and light as a feather. Goes from hardwood to carpet in a flash. They generally come with a little unit free thats pretty good and I use that for the auto's. I also got a roomba that does a great job at keeping the place in general shape between vacuums.
