I want to do a small scale bit of sand blasting, and I have three small compressors- a 2 HP, a 1 HP, and a 3/4 HP. Can I safely pump simultaneously from each into a common, remote 40 gallon pressure tank while each compressor’s regulator is set to the same PSI? I’m trying to avoid purchasing a new, larger compressor. Thank you for your advice. Hadley

Hadley,
Thank you for your question.
I am forwarding it to John White.

Hadley,
I've thought about this for a few days and it should work as long as you hook things up safely so a fitting or hose doesn't get blown off.
Set the highest pressure on the 2 HP, so it comes on first as the pressure drops. Set the 1 HP to come on at a slightly lower pressure, and the 3/4 HP should be set to come on last. You won't be able to plug them all into the same outlet, the 2 HP will need its own circuit.
Be sure to unplug everything at the end of the day, you don't want a leak in the system to get all three compressors running unattended for hours, eventually they'll seize or burn up.
Be sure that the 40 gal tank isn't corroded badly if it is salvaged and be sure to drain off water from the bottom of the tank often.

Concise, specific, responsive, all rendered with a little erudition, i.e., typical John White! What a delightful service. Thank you very much. Hadley
Thanks for the kind compliment.I have some further advice. The air pressure regulators on the output lines of your three compressors will restrict the airflow somewhat even if they are adjusted for maximum output pressure. Ideally they should be removed since they will serve no purpose. There should be a new, and possibly larger capacity, regulator installed on the out line of the 40 gallon tank. For safety the 40 gallon tank should also have its own pressure safety relief valve. John White
