Hi All,
I am getting the General 70-075 mortiser this week and would like some advice on chisels. The mortiser comes with a chisel set,but I am not sure of there quality. Is there any particular brand that any of you can recommend
Thanks

Good Choice.! I bought this same machine about a month ago. Haven't used it to much yet. So I can't say how well the bits will hold up,but so far the General bits that came with it seem to be pretty decent quality. Mine have seemed sharp & cut smoothly, even the 1/2" bit in oak cut nicely right out of the box. I've read on this board & other baords that you should hone them before use though. I have'nt honed mine yet, so if this makes any bit cut better then you & I both should be real happy with the factory bits. Good luck & hope you enjoy your purchase. Joe
Hi Joe, See in your reply to my post that you bought the General 70-075 mortiser.Just wondering what you think of it so far? I compared the General andPowermatic and decided on the General because of the tilting head and thereveiw that was in FWW. I have seen a few post's on the Powermatic, but none on the General.
So far so good. I like it & hope to put it through a lot of use in the future, but so far I've only used it to make a mission style coffe table so far. But I did set it up & make some test cuts with each bit that came with it just to try it out when I first got it.
