Hello all,
Need some recommendations for mobile bases for jointer, tablesaw, and bandsaw. Flooring is concrete, fairly level but w/ some small dips here and there. Only mobile base I’ve used before is a Delta that I had to provide the oak 2×2’s for the rails. Handy in that only one foot pedal to operate to make it mobile, but the three-wheel system seemed a little unstable. Any others out there, or links to good plans for home-made setups?
Thanks,
Monte

Dear Monte,
HTC makes some very good units, even their universal set ups are pretty nice. I own several: two cabinet saws (Dedicated), seven universals including my jointer which is over 300lbs. I have been very pleased with them. Amazon, Coastal Tool, and Tools Plus are all suppliers.
Good Luck,
John
You can't go wrong with HTC - top quality.
I've had good luck with the Delta kit but, if I remember correctly, I had to rework it after a while as it sagged and thus dragged. Not a big problem, but I did have to deal with it.

I have one all metal Delta 3-wheel base and 1 using wood stringers and I have never had a problem with instability. They are by far the easiest to use. I also have 2 Shop Fox mobile bases and they have been satisfactory. The Shop Foxes are better in one respect: they can be leveled far easier than the Delta style.
Unless HTC has changed their style, being that the length adjustment on the stretchers is done by moving 5/16 bolts, I would go with the JET mobile base. The stretchers are much more heavy duty and simply adjust in a socket that has a spring loaded adjustment pin. We've carried both and now carry the Jet. They come in 600lb. and 1200lb. capacity

I prefer the HTC and shop fox. I don't care for the JET, can't get it to stay put on the floor.
I have two different kinds. I have the one like you described that uses the 2x2's and they are ok. I also have the shopfox for my bandsaw and table saw. I like the shop fox, but they are more $$$. Good luck on the decision.
Hi Mil,
Just my $.02 - I bought an HTC mobile base from amazon for my Powermatic 66 saw. Instructions were horrible, showing a myriad of different designs and how to put them together - they need a seperate book for each design. Also, there were holes drilled for 5/16" carriage bolts and 1/4" bolts were supplied. Had to make a trip to the local HD for the right bolts. I actually called HTC and got a guy in the tech support department. You know what his answer was? Wow, we never noticed that! We must be shipping all of these out with the wrong bolts (he checked several bases while I was on the phone with him, all were wrong.) Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but why did it take me to point that out to them? And you know what else? No offer to send the right bolts, a free t-shirt or anything. That was a $189 mistake I will never make again.

Here is one you might like from Woodcraft.

I did some research before I bought my mobil bases. Fine Woodworking has a very good article on these. I went with the cheaper HTC model and I cannot say anything bad at all. The setup was very quick and easy. They supply everything, no need to cut any 2x4s, just bolt together the parts. This base should work for all your tools you are needing bases for. They roll very easily and are very stable. I highly recomend the HTC.
