My latest boo boo. I accidently thinned shellac with NAPHTHA! I wanted to make a seal coat for some cherry wood when I picked up the naphtha can by mistake and mixed it with the shellac. The mixture went on without a problem and dryed fine. Later the remaining mixture in a plastic cup began to desolve the plastic cup.
My question is, will this mess-up the following coats of polyeurthane?

There are much more technical folks here than I but since no other responses .......... I would say if it dried and you can sand the finish and get dust - you're OK. Naphtha is made from the same base like a mineral spirits (oil) so I would clean the sanded surface well and recoat with new shellac before final finishing.
Not sure why the cup melted ? Chemical reaction ? - maybe it was the alcohol in the shellac rather than the naphtha.
Think about a varnish over shellac rather than a poly.
