Miter saw blade changing problem
This may sound like a stupid question, but I need some help. I am having a devil of a time installing a new blade in a 10″ Hitachi miter saw (C 10FCD). The fit is way too tight and I don’t want to force the blade in. Does it make a difference if it’s a thin or standard kerf ? I can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

All 10" blades are not 10" but they are seldom larger. There shouldn't be any difference between a thin kerf and a regular blade. Generally, you have to slip the blade into the guard area. Saws are different, some may have retractable guards that pose a problem. You may have to lift something to get enough clearance. It's rare that an arbor hole isn't correct but a blade that has been packaged in bubble wrap may have some of that still stuck in the hole. Depending on the manufacturer, anything is possible.
Have you changed blades on this saw before? Did you check the owners manual to see if something has to be removed for blade changes? I have to remove part of the guard system on my Bosch. I have to get the blade positioned just right, not tipped too much, or it hangs up. You may want to measure the blade and arbor hole. Make sure the saw is unplugged when working on it. Look up inside the guard to see if there is something the blade can get hung up on. There usually isn't a lot of extra room. Once the blade is on the arbor, it should move freely.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
I'm guessing it will not fit the arbor shaft????
If so and the old blade fits well try a circular saw blade as it is also 5/8" and go from there..
If the CC blade fits then your new blade has a under size hole..-rarebear-http://www.rexmill.com My Hand Plane Resource
I actually just located the original blade that came with the saw. It slides in perfectly. I wonder if this was a particular problem with this saw.
For installation, the blade guard lifts up and back out of the way. The arbor shaft is not the issue, seems like there is just not enough room for a larger blade.
I was hoping that someone else had the same saw.
Not to be contrite.
Read the instructions for the saw. They usually cover blade change.
Are you saying you are trying to install a larger than 10" dia. blade on the saw or just a thicker kerf blade?"There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."

Thicker kerf.
Did you compare the old blade diameter to the new blade diameter by laying them face to face? I had a Hitachi 10" before I got a 12" and used 3 different blades with never a problem?
BTW.. give Hitachi technical a call on their 800 number. I normally just stop by as I live about 9 miles from them here in Atlanta. They can direct you if the problem has been en-countered before.

The Hitachi C8FB is their 8 1/2" slide compound and it is a REAL pain to change. The blade always gets wedged between the guard and the end of the arbor.
I generally unscrew the little gaurd plate on the 10" and 12" which leaves it pretty open to make the change. I have seen and actually used the 8 1/2" (local trim carpenters rave about it), but did not notice how the blade guards were set up.

Wonderful cutting saw but what a pain changing the blade.
