Building some bookcases and I am using minwax stains. The can reads ” a minimum of 8 hours between stain application and top coat”. My intention is to seal the stain with a 2lb cut of shellac then top coat it with Magnalac precatalized lacquer.
How much time do I really have to wait between stain and shellac then between shellac and top coat.time is of the essence I have good weather outside right now to spray.
Thanks,
Clark

Shellac is a top coat, so you still need at least 8 hours. Basically use the sniff test. If you can still smell the solvent you should let it cure longer. Warmer, less humid atmosphere means faster cure. Shellac dries quickly, and you should be good to go in less than an hour.
