Hello, I have just started a woodworking class at McKinleyville Middle School, with 7-8th graders. A donation from ACE hardware got us started with hand tools, 4 scroll saws, and 4 bench drill presses. There is no school money for this program, so I am looking for:
1. Any/all sources of additional hand tools donations, especially hand planes, rasps, cabinet scrapers, and bench vices.
2. Any/all sources of free woodworking projects/ plan designs that would be appropriate for 7-8th grade beginning woodworking students, using hand tools.
Thanks in advance for any help, suggestions you can send my way.

Where are you??? If you fill out your profile it helps a lot.
Also take a look at Richard Starr's book (Taunton) on woodworking with kids, lots of good stuff.
I'd suggest talking to the managers at the Lowes and/or Home Depot stores in your region. Mentioning that the program was initiated with a donation from Ace might motivate them. Also, you might see if the local paper will run a story on the program, including a quote that you're looking for donations. Who knows what might be lurking in the garages up there.
Hi,
I am a retired "Tech Ed" teacher from CT. A project I did with 7-8th graders was a night light. The plan was featured in Woodsmith, issue # 71. However, you would need routers and a table saw. So file this away when you have such equipment. Instead of scroll sawing the four panels for each light I used screen printing to create panels of 1/8- plexi-
glass. If you ever do it make sure you use the lowest wattage light
bulb you can find.
