I'm not positive but but I think is manufactured by under-employed persons in a South American country. Perhaps Guatemala.
Michael was attempting to provide work opportunities for this group and wanted a project simple enough for the unskilled to produce. If you want to contact him, I think I can dig up his email address.

Google "Michael Fortune production chair" It brings up details from two FWW articles. The company is located in Belize but I don't think the actual name is given. It might also be that Michael Fortune owns the company.
Michaal takes awhile to return emails as he is very very busy but be patient, he has a good habit of answering despte the high volume he gets!
