I want to make a three legged stand for sculpting.
22″ wide at the bottom and 7″ at the top. How do I calculate
the angle to cut the tops and bottoms of the three legs.
I will then cut dados for the triangle shaped plywood
that will join the legs together. I guess the dados will be the same
angle as the top and bottom of the legs. Hope I don’t sound too dumb
Thanks
Ken

You must first know the height of the table.
From your description, the short leg of the reference triangle will be seven and one half inches.
The other leg will be whatever height that you want the table to be.
Divide the long leg height into the 7-1/2"dim of the triangles short leg. The result will be the tangent of the angle that you require. If you have a height of 36",the splay angle will be 11.768288 degrees. No,I cant reliably measure this.17-3/4 degrees would be close enough for me. I hope that this is of some help.Work safely. ¬¬¬¬¬¬PAT¬¬¬¬¬

Pat:
Thanks much. Sorry I didn't realize I should
have included the length of the leg. I cut the legs
to be 48". I'm not sure what you meant by the din.
The space between the legs where they meet the floor is
36" and where they support he sculpture 7"

Sorry for the typo. Dim. is meant to be diminsion.
If you could post a sketch it would be helpful.I`m not sure now that I understand your construction.

Ken,
Draw it life size on a piece of scrap MDF or ply.
Then measure the angles off the drawing with a protractor, or (what we do), set a sliding bevel off the drawing and transfer the angle direct to the saw with the sliding bevel.
Avoids the need for trig if you're not that way inclined
Cheers,
