Hi-
I will be making some free standing cabinets very soon, that will receive either paint or more likely an opaque laquer finish. They will be simple face frame construction.
My initial assumption that the case would be birch ply, the face frames poplar, and the doors poplar rails & stiles with MDF raised panels.
However, after (re)reading the article about MDF in a past issue of FWW, and a couple other cabinet building books I have, it sounds like MDF may be a suitable choice for the carcass, face frame, and door rails and stiles too?
What are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Eric.

Works and looks great. Dont expose edges because they dent too easy. For raised panels there are MDF products that are engineered to machine better and are tougher.
Pardon my spelling,
Mike
Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill and requires tools you don't have. You won't regret it.
Thanks for the reply. Based on your statements, I guess I would elect for poplar face frames (regarding the 'no exposed edges, it dents too easy' suggestion.
What do you mean when you say "For raised panels there are MDF products that are engineered to machine better and are tougher"? Is it not the case that MDF is MDF is MDF? What should I look for?
TIA,
Eric.
