material a IR signal will travel through
Does anyone know of specific place to buy speaker cloth.
I am building doors for a stereo component rack and looking for fabric or some kind of mesh for the remote signal to travel through.
Homeowner already nixed the IR eye.
Any other ideas would help.

I bought speaker cloth here, http://www.speakerworks.com/speaker_grill_cloth_fabric_s/25.htm
Not sure this is going to work, IR depends on line of sight and any disruption of the beam kills it. You might want to start looking into RF remotes.
IR is just another frequency of light. Typically anything that will block light will block the IR 'beam'.
I used it on mine and it works fine. Occasionally a missed signal. Most fabric stores sell it.
A few weeks ago, I built a component cabinet with speaker cloth "panels" in the doors and it works perfectly. I don't remember the vendor's name, but I found them on line.
I was a little leery of this idea until I propped a door in front of my cable box and DVD player and found that the remote worked just fine.
A couple of weeks after I delivered the cabinet, I had to go back and tweak the adjustment on one of the doors. The customer told me that everything had been working just fine.
Parts-Express.com has a fair selection.

Thanks for all the input guys. I have put some thought into this matter, and found that I would rather use some kind of metal or fiberglass mesh with holes in it that could be bought or painted black.I think I would like the look, and it would be more durable seeing that these would be base cabinet doors.Any ideas on where to find something to fit this description without breaking the bank so to say.
